Welcome to the Beta Kappa chapter of Kappa Delta here at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga! As President, it is my privilege to introduce you to my home away from home - Kappa Delta! In my time at UTC, I can say without a doubt that becoming a member of Kappa Delta is one of my biggest joys and accomplishments! Each of my sisters are exceptional - be it in academics, extracurricular involvement, artistic abilities, or through holding leadership roles both on and off campus - they never cease to amaze me! Through all of their actions, they always try to live our open motto, “Let us strive for that which is honorable, beautiful, and highest.” These girls constantly amaze me and I am at awe that they have become some of my closest friends, roommates, and confidants. Without Kappa Delta - I would not be the person I am today. My sisters push me to always strive to be the best at everything I do and push me to new heights I never thought imaginable. If you had told me 3 years ago, when I sat in your place, reading all of the President’s messages that I would be sitting in my room in the Kappa Delta house typing mine right now - I would never believe you.
Kappa Delta gave me the confidence to run for leadership positions (such as President) and promoting confidence is one of our biggest platforms! We tell our sisters to “Build Confidence and Inspire Action” in everyone that they meet! We work very closely with the Girl Scouts of the U.S.A in order to instill confidence in girls at a young age! We host various events with the Girl Scouts throughout the year, one of my favorites is our annual “Trunk - or - Treat” where we all dress up and let the girls scouts walk around the house, play Halloween themed games, and eat candy! We also help a local troop sell lots of their cookies - because who doesn’t love Girl Scout Cookies?! On top of partnering with the Girl Scouts, we have two big philanthropy events each year to raise money for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Hamilton County as well as Prevent Child Abuse America! Last year, we raised almost $20,000 for these organizations! It is such a blessing to be able to partner with the PCAA and the local CAC to help prevent child abuse and help make the process after a child reports it, just a little bit easier!
Membership in Kappa Delta is a privilege that carries with it responsibilities. Our members are expected to excel academically and are encouraged to participate in experiences that will expand their knowledge of the world. Kappa Delta firmly believes that it is your duty as a sister to encourage your sisters to reach their full potential. I can say without reservation that being a sister in a sorority will truly enhance your college experience, and I am confident that everything you put into it you will receive back… Plus much more! The ladies around me prove this to me everyday. Their passion for life and contagious personalities give me even more reasons why I look forward to waking up in the morning, and we all anxiously await the day when we welcome you into our circle of friendship as an initiated sister and lifelong member!
I wish that there was time for me to meet all of you personally and talk to you about Kappa Delta for hours on end! It has truly been an experience I can never speak enough of! However, seeing you speak to all of my lovely sisters during recruitment will have to do! Please do not hesitate to contact me with any and all questions you might have, I know that the start of college can be a scary one but I hope that you all “Go Confidently!”
